«Invian — Smart Intersections» for Perm

In 2023, on the Perm–Ust-Kachka highway leading to the airport, «Invian» implemented an adaptive traffic control system.

The project included the modernization of three key intersections, transforming the existing infrastructure into an intelligent system.
Project Goals

  1. Transform traffic controllers into smart devices with adaptive control functionality.
  2. Enable remote traffic light control through the unified traffic control system «Transflow».
  3. Collect detailed traffic flow data, including classification into 6 categories of vehicles and creation of an origin-destination matrix.
Solution

The project «Invian — Smart Intersections» was implemented using a software and hardware system that includes:

• A control cabinet equipped with computing modules, 3G/Wi-Fi routers, power supplies, and protective components.

• Video data analysis software capable of:

• Analyzing traffic flow intensity in real time

• Classifying vehicles

• Optimizing traffic light phases

The system transmits collected data to the unified regional traffic control platform «Transflow» (ЕПУТС), enabling not only real-time traffic management but also the development of more efficient traffic schemes for the entire urban area.
Project Results

Modeling based on real-world data showed:

• A 17% to 47% reduction in vehicle delays at the intersections

• Improved intersection service levels according to the Russian Ministry of Transport’s methodologies

• A steady reduction in harmful emissions due to decreased vehicle idle times

Advantages of the «Invian» Approach

Innovation without overspending: modernization of existing infrastructure without major capital investment

Forecasting and optimization: data-driven development of future traffic solutions

Eco-friendliness and convenience: reduced congestion and increased travel speed make cities safer and more comfortable
